Martial Arts
At Austin Warrior Arts, I assist in supporting capoeira classes, serving as the assistant to the lead instructor Da’Mon Stith while continuing to advance my own practice. I’ve performed in both group and solo martial arts demonstrations across Austin, including a live sword performance at SXSW for the band Inana and their upcoming music video “Warrior,” blending capoeira and sword work. I train in multiple martial arts, including:
Capoeira
52 Blocks
El Matreg
Tire Machèt
Garrote
Esgrima con Machete y Bordón
Morengy Kickboxing and more
These diverse practices reflect my passion for exploring and preserving African and Afro-Diasporic combat traditions. I also hope to expand my training into Indian martial arts such as Kalaripayattu and Silambam.
Here, we demonstrate a form of Tire Machèt, with the attacker delivering strikes and the defender executing defensive techniques.
Here, I am performing strength-conditioning drills, including the queda de rins, a Capoeira technique that translates to “falling on the kidneys.” These movements emphasize core strength, balance, and precise body control.
